Happy Singles Awareness Day! As our happy couple friends pluck the perfect greeting card from the red and pink shelves of Valentine’s sentiments, our single friends are celebrating the flip side of V-Day. The hunt for love (or even like) can be long and varied. Plenty of singletons welcome February 14 with open arms, grateful for their freedom and friendships. Others among us keep searching, following their hearts wherever they may lead. But how do lovers know know they’re looking in the right direction?
We see our Out of the Box daters peeking at each other around their clue sheets, hovering near each other as they work through questions during our hunts. We see them flirting as the cross the finish line. But it’s so much easier to see these indicators from the our vantage point! Many good signals go by unnoticed.
In light of this weekend’s big Valentine’s Day Scavenger Hunts, we thought we’d help you out. Here’s a list of some keys to body language communication. If you notice your crush sending you these signals, chances are you’ll be having a super swell Singles Awareness Day. And if you freeze mid-date, steal one of these moves to tell him or her — without words — how adorable you think they are.
Who knows? Maybe next year your fancy-free Singles Awareness Day will be a lovey-dovey Valentine’s Day instead!
Body Language Clue Sheet
Check where his or her toes are pointing. No matter which way their faces are pointing people direct their bodies toward the person they find most interesting.
People indicate their feelings of intimacy by how close they stand toward each other. If he or she enters your personal bubble, they might be testing how close you will allow them to get.
Touching is an effort to connect. One of the first places most flirters touch is their your forearm, lightly, to see whether you will pull back. If the flirting partner doesn’t pull back, touches may progress by either lingering or moving to more intimate parts of the body, such as around the shoulders, the hands, the knees, and so on.
Clues to Her
Laughing together forms social bonds. Is she laughing at all your jokes?
When women are near the object of their affections, they add an extra sway to their walk. Do you see that extra sway when she walks by?
Is she keeping herself open and accessible? Crossed arms (when it’s not cold) say “stay away,” but if she is running her fingers over her her chest, the message may be “look at me.”
Clues to Him
When a man wants to impress, he tries to look his best. Is he running his hands through his hair? Give him a compliment — if he touches the item you complimented, that shows he’s pleased at your attention.
If you walk in sync, that can show that you’re tuned into each others’ cues.
If he strokes his face, this is may mean he’s wishing he could touch you — but he might not feel comfortable doing that yet.
Does he watch you walk away? That’s a good indicator that he’s enjoying your connection and looking to extend it.
We’ll see you this weekend, hunters! Good luck and good love!
