Even in beautiful Southern California, when it gets closer to summer we all go a little stir-crazy. Maybe it’s the change of weather, maybe it’s our kids finishing up the school year. But we hear a little voice that says “Take a vacation!”
It packs our bags for us. It calls the pet sitter. It starts serenading us with a Go-Gos tune.
But what about time? We don’t always get to duck away from work just because we need a break. In our harried world, it’s getting harder to chuck our cell phones in the drawer, leave our laptops and detach from our jobs for a week.
This is where the “staycation” comes in. Staycationing is defined as using vacation time to relax at home, tour your home city or go to attractions in your region. In a city as big as Los Angeles, people who have lived here for years — even their whole lives — can manage to miss parts of the city they’ve always meant to visit. Your staycation is the time you set aside to ride the ferris wheel on the Santa Monica Pier or see the tourist spots in Hollywood. It’s lying on the beach or taking a hike through a canyon. It’s learning and living — right here in L.A.
Who says a staycation has to take long? Why not take a daycation? Come hunt around Culver City this June, and make a day of it. Go on our scavenger hunt then go out to dinner, or start your day with a fabulous brunch then work it off while scavenger hunting through Culver City. Make your day entirely different from the usual. Call the friends you never get to see and invite them to be on your team. You deserve an escape!
It doesn’t take much to transport your heart and mind. Just a few hours, some thoughts, a challenge, and a sense of adventure.
Send your friends a postcard — even if they only live a zipcode or two away! Frame a silly picture you took with your friends during a Photo Challenge and put it on your desk at work. When life gets to you, it’ll remind you that fun awaits.
