Recently, a corporate client threw a teambuilding summer party for their 50 employees in Long Beach. We went down and created a custom hunt, checking to make sure that every piece of the clues would be in place for the event.
One of our clues involved a pricey art poster in a storefront window. At the finish line, teams rolled in with their answer sheets and a crazy story: the poster was gone! They couldn’t solve clue #7 without the poster in the window!! They were laughing, because they knew what has happened to the poster…
The CEO and his scavenger hunt team had bought it. They crossed the finish line and displayed the poster proudly near their lunch table.
Now that was some out-of-the-box thinking!
Not only did each team have a good time working together to solve their own set of clues, but the team as a whole had a fun, funny story that built a common experience for the whole office. Sure, it made it impossible for other participants to solve the clue. However, the crowd had a story from this hunt, a new in-group bond. The CEO took our scavenger hunt and added an extra element of teambuilding to it by creating an in-joke, a fond memory, and an example that the leader of the company is willing to go to great lengths to get creative and push the game farther than the original game.
We had to give him a tip of the hat for that one.
