A Valentine’s Scavenger Hunt
February 10, 2012 5:53 pm
Los Angeles Times
The Valentine’s Day shopping list can get a little predictable: Every year seems to involve a dozen red roses, a box of chocolates and a candlelit dinner. While these standbys can be romantic and loving, sometimes looking beyond the greeting-card clichés can leave a greater impression.
On Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday, Out of the Box Events brings a different kind of romantic pursuit to the streets of Venice with a scavenger hunt that will have couples fanning across the beach community in search of prizes…

A Very Venice Valentine’s
February 8, 2012 11:54 am
NBC LosAngeles.com
Venice didn’t invent the bike, but let’s say the city promotes the cause on a daily basis, judging by
the cycles on the boardwalk.
Nor did Venice invent romance, but judging by the number of canoodlers who regularly flock to the
beach, the city has something of a lock on love.
And when spokes and sweethearts meet? It must be the weekend before Valentine’s Day, and Out
of the Box must be in the mix. The scavenger hunt organizers are at it again, and the Hearts
Holiday dash they’ve got cooked up involves three things: twosomes, cycles, and a certain
arch-blessed oceanside burg…

Angelino Heights is the sight for a Halloween-flavored scavenger hunt on Saturday, Oct. 22 and Sunday, Oct. 23.
We don’t want to make assumptions about the good people of Angelino Heights. And they are so
nice. We chatted them up on a tour once. Just. Friendly as all get-out and highly patient with chatty
tourists such as ourselves…

Hollywood With a Side of Eek

Extreme scavenger hunts get trendy and then get tiresome, but the hunt that involves a lot of
localness, a lot of lore, and a healthy dose of Halloween creepy-creepy trucks on strong, year after
year.
The Haunted Hollywood Hunt is a perfect example. The Out of the Box-produced hunt marks its
fifth year in 2011, and its growing longevity is thanks to its mix of the macabre and mirthful and
movie-star-ish legend…

Grammy Go Seek looking for contestants
January 22, 2010 5:16 am
Southern California Public Radio
One week before the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards, you can bone up on Grammy history and even win some prizes at a Grammy Scavenger Hunt in Los Angeles. The hunt will be held at the Grammy Museum and you don’t need prior musical knowledge (or talent!) to participate. You and a team of up to five other people will be provided with clues that will lead you through the museum where you’ll search for answers to music-related questions.
Kristin Castle is president of Out of the Box Events – the company hosting the Grammy Go Seek. She says the contest is not a race and that each team will start at a different part of the museum. The team with the most correct answers will win. If there’s a tie-breaker, Kristin says, there will be bonus questions based on what participants saw in the museum. The winner will get an iTunes certificate.

Around 100 students from Helen Bernstein High School will descend upon Madam Tussauds Hollywood tomorrow morning for “an educational scavenger hunt.” The hunt, produced for LAUSD by Out of the Box Events, will have the kids running around trying to solve riddles, answer trivia questions, and—I’m just guessing here—hanging out with wax figures of pop culture icons. Actually, participants might have a real (quick) brush with fame—parents have signed release forms for media cameras to be permitted inside the event. Talk about a Hollywood education. Actually, it sounds like fun.

Out of the Box Events is one company in the scavenger hunt trend. The scavenger hunt – long an activity associated with school kids – is becoming a part of the business world. The past few years have seen an increase in the number of companies offering so-called “corporate scavenger hunts” to businesses in search of an unusual team-building exercise. Organizers tout scavenger hunts as a fun way for businesses to build teamwork and organizational skills. And unlike other…

Haunted Hollywood Scavenger Hunt
October 24, 2008 5:34 am
NBC Los Angeles
Twilight in Tinseltown. Ghosts to glimpse. Buildings heavy with psychic atmosphere. Out of the Box, which hosts hijinx-packed scavenger hunts around the city all year long, is throwing a special seasonal hunt focused on haunted Hollywood this weekend and Halloween night. We know what you’re thinking. You’re going to be asked to find 97 rubberbands in under five minutes while singing “Deck the Halls” at top volume (okay, maybe we were required to do that on an unsuccessful grade school scavenger hunt once). Rest assured that the challenges will be highly creative and focused on film and fright. All you need to do is show up with love of the legendary town where cinema was born (oh, a flashlight and comfortable shoes are recommended, too). And a soft spot for spooky stuff will help as well. Teams can include up to six people; prepare to be…

Exploring Venice Out of the Box
February 20, 2008 5:38 am
EyeSpyLA.com
I had a great time at the Out of the Box Valentine’s Scavenger Hunt in Venice last Sunday. It was a competitive sort of activity – teams of two were given clues to find locations in the area and questions to answer at those locations. The team with the most correct answers won. This particular event didn’t give extra points for finishing faster than the time allowed, but did deduct points for getting to the finish late. Yeah, we were late. I wasn’t too interested in the competitive aspect though, I figured the clues and questions would be a way to explore the area beyond the surface and an opportunity to look at colorfully chaotic Venice differently. I now know that…
